St. Francis Community Services (SFCS), an agency in the Catholic Charities of St. Louis Federation, is seeking a full-time staff attorney to assist with the legal needs of clients in our Family Law Department. Each year, SFCS assists 3,500+ impoverished and marginalized individuals throughout the St. Louis area.
Catholic Legal Assistance Ministry, a program of St. Francis Community Services, provides legal aid to low-income individuals who live in or have a case in one of the 11 counties of the St. Louis Archdiocese. Our areas of practice include family law, guardian ad litem appointments, guardianship law and immigration law.
Job Description
This family law staff attorney will provide legal representation in the following areas:
- Orders of Protection, Custody, Child Support, Paternity, Dissolution, Family Access, Third Party Custody, Modifications, Guardianship of Minors and Incapacitated Adults and accept Guardian ad Litem appointments as case load permits
- Pre-trial and trial preparation through case disposition
- Promote and protect client’s best interests
- Attend court dockets and appearances for assigned caseload
- Draft motions and pleadings
- Maintain client contact consistent with Missouri Rules of Professional Conduct
Qualifications
Required Education: J.D. from an accredited ABA institute
Required Certification/Licensure: License to practice law in Missouri and in good standing with the Missouri Bar Association
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with family law, non-profit or legal aid law
- Experience working with low income, under resourced populations, victims of abuse/trauma, and multi-cultural populations
- Fluent in Spanish in addition to English
